Metal Keyboardists HARRISON YOUNG (DORO, U.D.O) And LAURA SCARBOROUGH (GHOST) Team Up For New Rock Musical
October 13, 2026You may know American multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and singer Harrison Young as the former keyboardist to European metal giants Doro Pesch and Udo Dirkschneider, or you may know him as the singer/bassist of THE CARDS, his decade-long project with original, founding SAXON guitarist Paul Quinn. This year, Young has added a new set of skills to his ever-growing list of credits — rock musical composer and actor.
This week, he debuts a brand new (and extremely ambitious) project called "Garage Sale" in The Netherlands, with help from fellow metal keyboardist Laura Scarborough who has been the main touring keyboardist and "Keytar Ghoul" of GHOST since 2018. For the purposes of "Garage Sale", Scarborough takes on the role of musical and creative director, playing piano, controlling lights and video, and even acting out a small part in the show.
With an original rock score reminiscent of NINE INCH NAILS, SLEEP TOKEN, and, of course GHOST, "Garage Sale" explores one of the most universal — and deeply human — experiences of all: letting go. It confronts the emotional weight of releasing the material and physical things we cling to for security, while forcing us to face everything those objects and memories represent.
"This musical is for anyone who has gone through downsizing their own home or their parents' home," says Scarborough. "The tagline of the show is 'everybody's got their $@#%' and we all have $@#% that's gotta get rid of someday, so that's why garage sales happen, and that's what this show is about."
It is indeed a deeply personal story inspired by a journey Harrison himself was forced to make following his parents' exodus from their home in the United States last year. While its story is relatively specific, its themes are profoundly universal. Whether we are children, parents, or family members, sooner or later, we are all faced with the necessity of letting go.
"I'm a different person than the one I was when I began writing this show," Young says. The experiences which led me to write it were traumatic, but being able to put those feelings into words and music in this specific way and to be able to share this story with the world is a beautiful and cathartic experience. I especially hope to extend the boundary of musical theater to the rock community I've been performing to for decades. I think it's a valid art form which deserves to be shaken up a bit and shared with a rock and metal crowd. The subject matter of this show is heavier than any metal music I've ever made."
"I've never been a big fan of musicals," interjects Scarborough. "But I am crazy about this piece of work that Harrison has written. The music is really powerful, the dialogue is really entertaining… this is something we all need to hear." Scarborough has also been busy with her own solo performance art piece, titled "Dollhouse Toybox", which she debuted at GhostCon UK earlier this year.
"Garage Sale" will make its worldwide debut on Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, 2026, in Valkenburg, The Netherlands at Mystery House Valkenburg, with plans to bring the show to America sometime next year. In a first for this unique venue, the production transforms an old, abandoned cinema into an intimate and immersive setting, creating an experience as unique as the show itself.
